Andrássy Street is
undoubtably the most beautiful avenue of Hungary. UNESCO
has proclaimed the 2 mile long Andrássy Avenue a world heritage
site worthy to enjoy international protection. Besides its
vast array of magnificent palaces from the turn of the century,
Andrássy Avenue is also famous for its millennium underground,
the first underground system to be built in Central Europe
at the end of the 19th century, operated by horses at the
time. The handover ceremony of the avenue was held in 1896
to commemorate Hungary's 1000 years of existence.
Andrássy Avenue is also well-known for its rich cultural
life that is drawing millions of tourists to Budapest from
all over the world.
